Women’s innovation, creativity take center stage on World Intellectual Property Day


The Director-General of the UN World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Francis Gurry, stated that humanity still has to work towards bringing up full potential in innovation and creativity. Here, Gurry is talking about more active participation of women in such field. According to WIPO, in 1995, the number of women patent application under Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) was less than 20%. Fortunately, the proportion of women’s role in science, technology, business and arts is constantly increasing. Gurry strongly believes that such improve in the society will not only make full use of the benefits that comes out from innovation and creativity but also help humanity regardless of gender; it will lead to actively confronting global challenges such as climate change, clean energy, food security and etc.
