Safe, effective family planning is key to 'empowering people, developing nations' – UN

According to the UN Population Fund(UNFPA), “Some 214 million women in developing countries who want to avoid pregnancy are not using safe and effective family planning methods, for reasons ranging from lack of access to information or services to lack of support from their partners or communities.” In developing countries, there are still some people needing safe and effective family planning which can reduce maternal death and avert 67 million unintended pregnancies.

Natalia Kanem, UNFPA Acting Executive Director mentioned that better health care including family planning can support sustainable development and empower women to finish schools and participate in economic activities, which can increase house income.
